Set within the former home of the Rowntree family - a lovely Victorian mansion with extensive gardens, YHA York is just a 15-minute riverside walk to York’s ancient center. This property also features a restaurant and a games room with pool table, books and board games. YHA York is within the quiet residential area of Clifton, a 15-minute walk from York’s stunning, Gothic cathedral and historic city walls. The famous Betty’s Tea Rooms are a 20-minute walk away, surrounded by York’s excellent shops. York Dungeon and the Jorvik Viking Center are a 25-minute walk away. Guests at YHA York can make use of the cafe and restaurant, or prepare food in the self catering kitchen. Common area was bright and lively. Loved foosbsll table and avail of food. Great family vibe Easy river access and peaceful walk to city on river Need at least 3 large sets of washer/ dryers. Laundry system gets bogged down with only one set of very small w/d and dryer needs 2x 50 mins. Internet very weak Cabinets in our room t15 had no shelves or drawers to organize clothes ...only one cabinet and a place to hang clothes!!! ( ps noone brings hangers to a hostel!) So our stuff was all over the floor

Excellent customer service . Thanks to Tom, Ken, Nurag and Jack ny stay was quite pleasant. They were very helpful and kind. Some of the guests can be quite rude and didn't seem like sharing facilities which is strange considering that you booked a hostel

Good location a short walk from the city centre. Hostel & facilities were clean, and staff friendly. Bar was reasonably priced. As a base for my short stay it was perfect. I stayed in a private family room with more than enough room for us all and a toilet 1 door away.
