It was perfect for location , easy walk into York city centre , plenty of bars restaurants and shops nearby , lovely area to be ! The room was just very small , we should have upgraded to a larger room !

Style and decor. Breakfast very good. Fluffy towels and nice bathroom products. Mattress a little uncomfortable, but then nothing beats your mattress at home.

Lovely room. Could hear the water running down from all the rooms above us at all times.

I chose the hotel because I really liked the old-world character of the property and thought it would make the stay feel special. Unfortunately, on arrival and during our stay, there were several issues that made the room feel very different from what I had expected for the price. Firstly, we were told that my partner may need to leave his car keys with staff so that his car could be moved if it was blocking another vehicle. I appreciate that the car park is small and that this may be how you manage the limited space, but I don’t think it is reasonable to expect guests to hand over their car keys to someone they don’t know and allow their vehicle to be moved. Naturally, there is also the concern of what would happen if the car were scratched or damaged while being moved. More importantly, the condition of the room was disappointing. The chandelier was literally hanging away from the ceiling, which not only looked poor but also raised concerns about whether it was properly secure. It also didn’t appear to be the genuine period feature I had expected from the photographs and overall presentation of the hotel. The biggest disappointment, however, was the jacuzzi bath. This was one of the things my partner was particularly excited about as part of his birthday stay. Unfortunately, the water pressure was extremely poor and it took a very long time just to fill the bath to a reasonable level. When we eventually turned the jacuzzi jets on, there was a really unpleasant smell and dirt/debris came out of the jets into the bath water. That was particularly unpleasant and concerning, as the whole point of having a bath is obviously to sit in clean water. We certainly did not feel comfortable using it after seeing what came out of the jets.

Great location. Just a short walk from city walls. Great staff - so friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the air conditioning in our room was broken and so we had to move rooms twice which was a shame but staff tried hard to assist in this situation. We had a very different experience at breakfast depending upon who served us.

The friendly welcome was lovely, we were shown to our room. Which was cosy and comfortable, I loved the decoration. The blackout blinds were fantastic for helping get a good sleep. The creaky floor in our room, but I appreciate it's an old building. But tbh...it wasn't a major issue .

The room, location the staff and of course Teddy! Couldn’t open the bathroom window which left a very stagnant smell after using any water in the bathroom or shower.

Beautiful hotel. Comfortable bed. Perfect location to access the city centre. Amazing breakfast. 11am checkout. Friendly staff. The shower wasn't as powerful as id like it. A fridge in the room would be a useful addition. I prefer coffee bags to instant coffee.
