Classic Lodges The Old Swan Hotel
About Classic Lodges The Old Swan Hotel
Surrounded by picturesque lawns and gardens, The Old Swan was once the famous retreat of Agatha Christie. It offers modern rooms with private bathrooms and on-site car parking. Originally an 18th-century coaching inn, it now features rooms with tea and coffee-making facilities, a TV and trouser press. Some also have a stand-alone bath and views over the garden. The traditional Swan Lounge and Bar offers a selection of beverages and afternoon teas, while the Wedgewood and Library restaurants serve fresh, locally sourced dishes. The Old Swan was home to Agatha Christie during her disappearance in 1926, and has since been used as a film set for the 1979 film, Agatha. Just a short walk from Harrogate town center, the building is 5 minutes’ walk from the famous Betty’s Tearoom and 15 minutes from Harrogate Railway Station.

It was a period building with lovely original features and fabulous grounds. Full of character

Beautiful setting, was lovely sitting outside having a drink in the sun. Love the history of the building and the Agatha Christie connection. The restaurant was fantastic, really enjoyed the food and the service was excellent

Exceptional

Breakfasts varied and good standard. Excellent bar area. Library useful meeting room. No butter one morning. View from window disappointing.

Really lovely period property, clean, good location. Room facilities very dated. Lack of sockets, had to boil the kettle on the floor next to bathroom door as lack of sockets. Room to hot, no air conditioning, used old rotating fan all night to keep the room cool. Reception staff very unfriendly and unhelpful.

Great looking hotel with good atmosphere. Great location. Plenty of parking. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Nothing would definitely return

Perfect location and the breakfast was outstanding Stayed in room 130 and lots of windows but no view at all
-

Location. Noisy events both nights....parking a rip off, used street parking, why so expensive???

The room was clean and spacious and the bathroom excellent, however the room was hot even with the windows cracked open making it difficult to sleep. The breakfast was good, maybe a little cold depending on when you attended. The location is good and quiet with everything a short walk away. Taxis readily available if you need to go further. The decor above the ground floor is a little tired and the bar serve "Doombar" as their only real cask ale which as a camera buff I would not serve to my worst enemy. We had to leave the hotel to find a decent pint of bitter!

Beautiful location and close to town The bathroom was tired and cramped
-
I think the Old Swan...
-
Close to Harrogate center, enjoyed the breakfast Parking Charge
-
Toilet flush was broken - was initially fixed quite quickly in the evening, but broke again immediately the next morning and despite informing reception nobody came to fix it for a couple of hours until we checked out.
-
It is really close to all amenities and in a quiet location. Room 264 is very dated: curtains with holes through, bathroom door is sticking as soon as you take a shower, wall paint is pilling in places. We totally understand that it is classic hotel but it is desperately needs some TLC

The hotel is very conveniently located and within easy reach of the main town centre with bars and restaurants etc. it is a nice quiet hotel just far enough away from the centre. Nice staff and a very comfortable stay at an affordable price. Nothing really. All positive and will return.A comfortable stay at an affordable price.
