Cool place, relatively quiet if that's what you're looking for, amazing orange cat named Angus that lives next door and spends his days at the hostel. He gets a 10/10. I like the setup and the common area of the hostel is large and cozy. Walking distance to lots of shops/cafes/bars. The smell in the 12 bed dorm was not great. I know there's only so much that can probably be done about this but just a note for future guests - maybe shell out the few extra dollars for a smaller dorm if you can.

Beautiful building in a great location. The price was very high (but it was the Formula 1 weekend)

The only positives were the nice outdoor area and clean bathrooms. Very disappointing experience from start to finish. Upon arrival, the front desk staff member with dark hair was unfriendly and unwelcoming, which immediately set a negative tone. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and clearly very old — you could feel the springs the entire time, making it difficult to get proper rest. There was also noticeable drug activity around the property, including weed and harder substances, and it appeared that some people were couch surfing there. The overall environment felt unsafe, especially as a serious incident occurred during our stay where someone was stabbed and taken to hospital.

If you’re looking for somewhere more chilled or balanced, you may want to look elsewhere. There is very limited common space and it’s almost always crowded and very loud, so no place to relax or unwind after a long day. The facilities are prettttyyy grungy, at times gross, but the staff do a good job of maintaining cleanliness to a decrepit building. The best thing about this hostel is the location, within short walking distance to the cool Fitzroy and Collingwood neighbourhoods, and a big park across the street. Choose wisely! I should mention that most of the long term guests are having to check out next week since the hostel owners have decided to double the price for the duration of the Formula One race happening in Melbourne, how nice! $600/week for a grungy hostel bunk bed seems criminal to me.

The vibe of the hostel was amazing, they really went with the "Nunnery" theme and it was really fun. I was here in July, so it was off season and quiet. I prefer that, and I still met awesome people despite there not being many. Staff were incredibly friendly, was very clean. I got a free upgrade which was sweet. It's also located in Fitzroy so awesome if you are queer as this the gayborhood of Melbourne. The kitchen does close in the afternoon for two hours and at night. But there's another location you can keep your food.

A beautiful old building in a wonderful location in the heart of Melbourne.

The architecture of the place is really nice. Lot’s of nice views. Unfortunately there was some other guests that didn’t respected the silence time after 10PM and were loud taking even after 1AM.

The staff are friendly and helpful. For the size of the property & the amount of guests the hostel was severely understaffed. The property is a lovely old building, that is in disrepair & needs renovating. The shovers in the communal bath rooms were missing shower screens or the glass was cracked all the way across. The water pressure ment it was either a boiling hot or freezing cold shower. After a rainy night the roof had leaked and there was wet plaster on the floor. The noise was terrible, in the ground floor of the hostel and on the front steps a party raged well into the night. This is a residential area, I am surprised the people that live either side of the hostel have not made noise complaints.

The bedroom and the bed are clean, but people's noise does not stop until 2 a.m., and it is quite hard to sleep.
