YMCA Hostel

I liked having the safe place to stay once inside the main doors. My room felt small but I needed a place where I felt safe enough to sleep ( I have mental health and PTSD from DV) so feeling protected and safe was very important. Thank you. The crazy people outside on Greys ave and K Rd. There was high risk of being hurt and I was scared alot. It was a bit loud and kitchens for cooking were oddly scattered.

Well not a hell of a lot to be honest Bathroom floors are dangerously slippery. No electric jug in room. No tap or water in room but kitchen shuts at 10pm. So what drink water from the toilet? Room next door slammed the door the whole time I was there

Good location, great staff, clean and awesome showers It was very difficult find the entrance from the street to get to the reception. I actually walked around the building twice before I found it.

Breakfast is good, location at cbd is handy, staff friendly Cleanliness / hygiene for some shared/common toilets remains an issue (e.g unflushed) from some inconsiderate users

1) Property location in Auckland CBD is handy 2) Affordability 3) weekly room / floor cleaning schedule, 4) friendly receptionist staff I would like to mention these points humbly as a constructive critism, and to allow room for improvement. The most concerning issues in this Hostel are: 1) Hyagine: The Shared floor toilets often left unclean after previous users (ie, not flushed, seats with urine, etc). I had to go downstairs/upstairs to use other floor's toliets due to this issue. I suffer from nausea. There are no inspections or reminder notices left on toilet doors regarding this - to remind others to clean after themselves after they finish their business :( 2) Noise: sometimes annoying noisy neighbours downstairs, particularly at nighttime. 3) Bedroom servicing: there are delays responding to requests to changing bed sheets from guests (it takes time to navigate your concerns to the staff to respond to your need to change your bed sheets prior to the weekly preset room servicing schedule).

Super friendly staff, clean bathrooms/kitchen, and fun activities (ping pong table, pool table, seating area and ability to connect a laptop to watch a movie). Nice to be able to store stuff after checkout time at 10 am so that we could check out the city before we headed to the airport Room was hotter than the outdoors, even with two fans running, and there were cockroaches coming from various spots in the room :(

Maybe it could have been cheaper? But hey, running a business is hard these days, so the charge was probably as expected.

Having a fridge in the bedroom was handy and the beds were fine. The bedrooms were extremely hot as they got direct afternoon sun and had no air-conditioning - the bedrooms facing the other way might not have that issue. Noise - lots of sirens and city noise overnight - didn't bother me much but could be an issue for some. The communal kitchen is very small and closes at 10 pm.

The staff was very nice! And they come once a week clean your room, like it or not. Cheap renting! The room smelled very bad, had some stains on the wall and a hole. Could really open the window and couldn’t change the smell of the room even with a candle and incense. Didn’t dare to walk barefoot on the floor (carpet) because of smell and stains.

The place is clean and the staff are friendly and helpful.
