As for two previous visits, Willa (the Reception Manager) accommodated me in a lower bunk so that I didn’t have to suffer pain, or risk a fall, after recently having had knee replacement surgery. During this 4-day stay, I’ve noticed that Willa takes the trouble to get to remember the names, and know the situations (eg: looking for a job) of all the guests who are making an extended stay at LDNM. For location in Melbourne, I like being very close to Queen Vic Market - as is the other Little Drifter hostel. One 'night' a female was checked into the dorm I was in, at about 2 am. On entering the dorm, she didn’t go to bed: she proceeded to unpack, and re-pack her luggage - with much zipping, rustling (of plastic), and generally slamming/dragging things around. After a couple of hours of her making so much noise, I requested that she stop making such a racket, and go to bed, so that I, and the other two guests, could get some sleep. She left about 6 am, probably to get to the airport (with luggage prepared) for an early flight. Well, while hostel staff can’t predict, or stop, such behaviour - in the middle of the night - by an inconsiderate guest, I think there should be a policy that one-night-stay guests (known to be leaving early am, for a flight) should not be allowed to check into dorms, after midnight.

I liked the design and the location. The key card lock for the ladies bathrooms didn’t work in my floor, so it was just accessible to anyone, and the room I was in had lot of long-term residents who had so much luggage taking over the entire room.

Had an amazing stay! Willa was incredible from start to finish—friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, and her exceptional hospitality made our visit even more enjoyable. It's super clean, comfortable, and the perfect location. Highly recommend staying here and look forward to coming back. Thank you, Willa, for making the trip so memorable!

The central location & events offered - especially when Alice took us to visit the Queen Victoria night market - she was such a warm, friendly & relaxed host :) Everything was great - and now there’s a great new coffee machine!

As l had my to teenage kids with me Drifter was better than just a hotel room. Much more social and even a free paella. My kids said they will be back. The private 4 beds / bunk beds just needed a table and chairs as you can't sit on the beds we sat on the floor.
