Hotel Hafentor

The location was great. Right near train and bus stops and across the street from the harbor. Easy access to multiple harbor tours - and the boats that are part of the local transit system. Also lots of nice restaurants and shopping and even a grocery store and bakery across the street.

Room was very ascetic. One bed, one char, so one of us had to be in bed in the room at the same time. Unfortunately my husband became ill during our stay and it was not a very comfortable room to spend time in. If you use the room just to store your luggage and sleep it is adequate due to the excellent location and a grocery store accross.

Brilliant little hotel, outstanding staff at reception. They were super nice (at arrival and departure). I felt really welcome right from the outset. Loved it. I booked a single room which was super clean, even had aircon and tea and coffee facilities (that is certainly not standard in Germany) Loved it. Am very happily going back there for my next visit in the Elbphilharmonie Car parking is announced but a bit of a gamble. There are a handful of spaces outside the hotel and alternatively there is a parking house nearby, however that comes at an extra cost (which wasn't in the ad). Still I was lucky and found the a free space just outside the hotel.

quiet. decent breakfast. No ceramic cup in the room to make tea. Just paper cups. Difficult to hold when hot. Mentioned this on the second day to staff. She came back with only another paper cup. Unsatisfactory. Not until the third day did another staff member provide a ceramic / glass cup.

Location perfect, 80m from Ubahn and virtually on the waterfront. Breakfast was excellent and the restaurant connected to the hotel was also convenient for an evening meal or snack and drinks. Staff helpful and friendly. The mattress was below par, the room was small but had everything needed and faced onto a quiet private garden. No radiator except for the bathroom but not a real problem as personally I like sleeping in a cool room

Everything is close by, including the mighty Elbe. Breakfast was pleasant and the room was well isolated too: we were not disturbed whatsoever.

Location was superb. Room was neat and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a really bad smell of fish in the hallway at the stairs. Not sure if this was only a once off from the kitchen perhaps? But it was quite bad. Also, the only small complaint was the pillow in the bedroom. It was very thin and difficult to sleep on.
