About Elmbank York, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

A boutique Art Nouveau hotel in historic York. Minutes from the heart of the city, overlooking the Knavesmire Strays, lies the Elmbank Hotel, a unique 19th-century mansion with a rich history. Redesigned by Mackintosh contemporary, George Walton, the Elmbank hotel is home to one of the finest and most complete Art Nouveau collections in the UK. Here, impressive stained-glass, beautiful murals, and detailed stencils meld with modern and sophisticated facilities to provide a space of style, comfort, and interest. York’s ancient city walls can be reached in just 10 minutes’ walk, with a further 5 to 10 minutes’ walk taking guests to the historic attractions, including the spectacular York Minster. Alternatively there is a bus stop outside the hotel, and from there a bus in to town takes 3 minutes. York Railway Station is just a 10-minute walk or few minutes by car, and the Elmbank has limited parking. There is also a bus stop near the hotel, with sightseeing tours going in to town. York Racecourse is a few minutes' away.

Have stayed previously and as before all the staff I came across were very pleasant and helpful

The bed was very comfortable, the room had everything you needed, the lobby of the hotel was very elegant, and the parking across the street was very close. The room was a bit cramped- definitely a small room.

We have stayed here twice, the first was a few years ago and it was amazing. The second time wasn't good. Very slow staff in restaurant, , waited for a bout an hour for food to arrive. The Food when it arrived was amazing. On check out, the bill was wrong by nearly 50 pounds, however it was refunded straight away I showed them my email receipt.

An excellent boutique hotel with high-quality restoration and additions to give a modern look while taking you back in time. Extremely friendly staff members who are ready to help you. Reasonably priced and within walking distance to the Racecourse. Everything was perfect, though I wish they had small espresso cups. The giant cups would not fit under the Nespresso machine.

The location was fine No hot water for an evening or morning shower. Breakfast was not good, fried eggs where rubbery and the yokes hard, scrambled eggs looked grey and flat. The breakfast the sausage was overcooked with no taste and the bacon was no better, the coffee was awful, overall the worst breakfast we have endured this year.

    Nothing!

Gorgeous hotel. The lobby, restaurant and bar were a joy to sit in thanks to their wonderful design and cozy atmosphere. Room was spacious and bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was generous and delicious. It’s a little bit of a walk if you are on foot (but I knew this already), so best to take the bus back at night. I think the courtyard rooms are a little bit humid and I would have preferred to stay in the main building.

Nice decor, staff lovely, excellent shower Food choices v limited, window didn't open so v stuffy

  • Engine customer Oct 2025

Very comfortable bed and great character throughout the hotel. No elevator. Restaurant staff for the dinner service were very slow and inattentive with very few customers eating in the restaurant.

Beautiful building filled with history and style and all necessary modern amenities. Excellent location. Easy walk to city center and close to restaurants and pubs. Good breakfast and bar was a plus. Lovely staff! There wasn’t enough parking for all guests. Thankfully there was a nearby lot accessible

Elegant bedroom in an elegant setting. Everything was perfect and the bed was so comfy. We will be returning

Great hotel in a beautiful old building, located just a 10 minute stroll from the city centre. Staff were very helpful and let us check in early so we could get to our comedy gig. Well-appointed rooms are decorated with a mix of modern elegance and vintage character. Bathroom is well designed but small, and some of the stairs to upper floors are twisty and cramped, so possibly not ideal for anyone with limited mobility.

    Great staff

  • Engine customer May 2025

Good location, friendly and courteous staff, very nice historic building. Coffee maker was down, I enjoy good coffee. Upon ironing a shirt breaker tripped taking out most outlets, the only thing on was the iron and television?

  • Engine customer May 2025

    Exceptional

  • Engine customer May 2025

Breakfast Staff, especially at reception. They gave wrong information on parking which resulted in a fine and were not helpful at all resolving that. The beds contained a lot of dust and the shower was broken. We could get another room.

  • Engine customer Apr 2025

    Very good

  • Engine customer Apr 2025

The property was ideally located, the decor was lovely and the staff were really friendly. It was slightly dirty, a few cobwebs around, the curtains were a little short for the windows and the fridge seemed quite noisy.

  • Engine customer Apr 2025

Main Hotel clean and smart, bar area quiet The bedroom was tiny, the towel hook in the bathroom was dangerous as the room itself is so small you constantly hit it. The room at best is suitable as a single
