Renovated and re-opened under a new owner in August 2017, the Riess City Rooms - Self Check-in enjoys a central location, a 5-minute walk from the Ringstraße Boulevard and a 10-minute walk from Vienna University. Tram line D stops just 656 feet away and gets you to the heart of the city and to Nußdorf with its characteristic Heurigen wine taverns. The simply furnished rooms have a private bathroom and offer free WiFi internet access. Saint Stephen's Cathedral and the Kärntnerstraße Shopping Street are reachable on foot in 15 minutes from the Riess City Rooms - Self Check-in.

Would recommend making a note of all of their contact information before arriving - had an issue with the hot water (not the hotel's fault) but trying to report it in a "staffless" hotel wasn't straightforward! The phone number provided in the room didn't work so I had to search out another, which took a while but was a minor inconvenience overall.

Close to metro stations (7-8 min walk). Close to Uni Wien (3 min walk). Close to city center (~12 min walk). Lots of bars & restaurants around - one on the ground floor, several more at 100 metres away. Cleanliness: AWFUL. We found cigarette butts on the floor in the bathroom and very stinky leftovers in the nightstand near the bed. Comfort: BAD. There was no air conditioning and the building gets so hot, that the first night, when outside were ~25°C, inside it was impossible to sleep even with the fan on max and windows open; we had to go outside to chill. The next 3 days outside was quite cold, but the building still felt like a heated oven. Noise: Nightmare. The tram is exactly under the window (even with windows closed, it still is noisy).

Our first room was very noisy and we were provided another room after we complained. I also think that 11:00 is too early for checkout.

Great location away from tourist noise yet close to downtown and waterfront Everything was great, except it was really really hot inside the building and rooms. So if you are a person who needs cool temperatures that is not the place. At least during summer time

Clean, walkable to downtown in 20 mins. The self check-in was a little difficult to manage.

Spotlessly clean. New fixtures. Nice minimalist design. Kitchen area was welcoming. Bed and pillows comfy. The person who cleaned the rooms was always very pleaaant when I met her. Location fabulous - just outside the crowded tourist area - but easily walkable, and great public transportation nearby. Bathroom fixtures seemed a little “budget.” Sink faucet very difficult to adjust to warm or hot (I think it’s broken.) Shower stall floor not supported. No towel bar.

The location is great! Enough facilities. The room was clean. Quiet narrow with a single bed. Good enough to sleep. The wall is quite thin so one could hear when people passing by.

The walls are extremely thin, if you're a light sleeper you should bring earplugs.

Self check in process very easy. Room is very simple but lots of storage and a good size fridge. There is also a communal kitchen (no stove or oven access) which was very handy as it had a kettle, cups and utensils. I couldn’t find an elevator, so if you have a lot of heavy luggage be prepared for stairs.
