Beautiful scenery, comfy bed, great amenities like the pool, sauna and steam room. Looks just like the photos, would recommend No complaints

It was very clean but dated Needs freshened up big time The bar area was depressing and dull

Easy approach to taking our dog and the grounds were great. Food was good and some of the staff were good and others on reception less so. A mixture of staff with mixed ability - perhaps needed more experience and guidance or perhaps just a wish to assist. People didn't contact us despite saying they would. Disappointing. The pool was a great addition and enjoyed being able to swim. The bedside lights in the room were not working and it took over 24 hours and several reminders before they were fixed. Also a 3 for 2 nights was advertised on site and before we arrived tried to secure the deal but the receptionist was unable to find anyone on site to contact to offer this. When we arrived I enquired about the on-line 3 for 2 deal but was told this was not available for us despite it not being made clear it was suddenly not available. We would have added another night on. Some of the staff were good and others less so - a mixed set of abilities, some with no or little experience or real wish to help.

The grounds were lovely Breakfast was the worst breakfast my husband had ever had! Also £6 supplement for avocado and toast! Meaning avocado and toast costs £24. Toast was also only lightly toasted on one side so essentially it was warm bread not toast

The lady that checked us in was welcoming and friendly, she got us booked in for breakfast and bravely removed a giant spider from the room for me. She also rang me to let me know it was safe to return. The small sauna and steam room were quite nice. The hotel has seen better days - you will think it is a Britannia hotel but apparently it isn't. The corridors have absolutely taken water damage and dried out naturally, the stairway smells like a pub carpet and they haven't done a very good job on enforcing the no smoking rule. The hallway and room carpets were stained and fraying. The room really needed a good clean as all the surfaces were stained. The beds are also showing their age and aren't particularly comfortable which adding to the poor soundproofing makes for a bad night's sleep. The bathroom had mould. Some of the sockets were temperamental and the hairdryer didn't work at all. The WiFi is absolutely unusable. Don't expect any decent coffee at breakfast.

The central building is like a castle. Very clean. The pool is too big and the spa is what you need. Near to bus station. A mini bar inside the room would be helpful. A little far from Edinburgh. Around 45 minutes by bus or train to the center.

Lovely building and setting. The staff in the restaurant in the evening were excellent - attentive and informative. Brown stains all around the taps in the bath - just didn’t look good

Loved the country traditional vibe, rooms a good size, restaurant was sweet the idea of spa retreat was good but facilities weren’t great felt like a communal leisure centre. Staff in restaurant were very young and quite slow with service Bedroom smelt of damp Bathroom dated

Excellent breakfast choice available and perfect service. The restaurant menu for the evening meal was perfect for what we wanted. The food was well cooked and well presented...the fish battered fish was cooked to perfection and the sticky toffee pudding was just amazing....the best I have had for a long time! Lovely service from all the staff. The bedroom was compact but had everything we needed. The bathroom had excellent water pressure. Some areas were a little tired and could do with a refresh, but this in no way affected our stay. There was limited wardrobe storage, with no drawer space, but again this did not affect our stay as we worked around it. However, we did pay extra for an upgrade for a bigger room which was a little disappointing.
