The staff was pleasant and accommodating

I stayed in the lodge and unfortunately, the beach and water activities and rentals were actually quite a distance away, despite there being a waterfront much closer to the lodge. They said because school had started up they didn't have adequate staff for lifeguards. The water was about knee-deep. As I said it was oppressively hot so that walk was actually really draining. I wanted to rent a bicycle but I had brought my purse and they did not have baskets for the bikes, so that didn't happen. Because the majority of the waterfront was closed, the tiny section that was open was super crowded. The music was unnecessarily loud. The restuarant was decent but a bit overpriced. Spa prices were ridiculous. The butterfly facility was really nice but not monitored and guests were harassing the butterflies. There is a daily resort fee, which I have no idea what it covered.

A little pricy, but staff was very helpful and friendly. Hot tub and indoor pool would have been nice.

The vast property is a great escape from city life. There is rich history to be found if you seek it out and spend some time away from the main attractions. Most of the staff is courteous and professional. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff working the beach Grille are obviously not kept to the same high standards as most of the properties. A worker took my lunch order and was unhappy that I refused to give a tip when I placed the order. Why would I leave a tip when no one is bringing food to a table or refilling drinks or cleaning up after me? When I received my order, the cook had put about a tablespoon of black pepper on my burger. It was inedible.

Excellent family vacation . Great amenities, from the beach to all the on site restaurants, to live music on the weekends at the tap house . There is a little bit of something for everyone to do . Staff was very friendly and overall we had a wonderful time . The dinner at Piedmont was great , breakfast was pretty good , best thing was the pancakes and grits . Lots of walking or driving bc the property is huge . We’d definitely visit again .

It was a pleasure to introduce my out of state friends to the South.

First let me say that the issue we had with the property was that the A/C was broken in our cottage. Property sent three different people out and they were not able to fix it. It wasn’t until the next day that they offered to move us meaning we slept in the hot cottage the first night. By that time, it was storming raining and no one in my family wanted to repack all our stuff and move in the rain with our dog and my son who is in a wheelchair. They never did fix the AC. This was August in Georgia. I believe they should have refunded the first night but they only offered to refund the resort fee. I then contacted Expedia to help and the Expedia agent told me that no authorized person was available at Calloway to approve a one night refund. As for the property itself it is huge and well maintained. The pools were clean. The beach and lake are very nice. We were disappointed that there were not more activities on site. The bird of prey show was inside and pretty boring. I cant comment on the gardens themselves because we were there in August so they were not blooming.

Beautiful setting and many wonderful activities available. Employees had little to no knowledge of the activities and building on the property. They continually provided incorrect directions and times for activities. Guests need to be given more reliable information. The virtual concierge often gave wrong information, or was unable to provide information as well.

I loved that once we got onto the property, we didn’t have to go anywhere else. Everything we needed was right there! Nothing! Everything was great!
