Apollo Hotel Kings Cross

Nice and comfortable hotel.

It certainly is a small room but I was on my own and I really just needed to be close to St. Pancras. So I was perfectly comfortable for one night. The water pressure of the shower head was very low - I wasn't sure it was working until I waited for a minute and then it was ok. Bit of leakage also but nothing tragic.

That it was close to the train station The family room was very small with not much room to move, it could do with being painted and a good clean. It was very basic and luckily we didn't need to spend much time there.

None. The lack of flexibility and professionalism from both the host and Booking.com support was disappointing. We booked this room and, upon arrival, before checking in, specifically asked the host whether the room was in the basement. The host said no, “just down the stairs.” However, the room was in fact a basement room, which was misleading. The room had a strong smell of mold, a very low ceiling (especially in the bathroom, approx. 1.85 m), very basic beds, and the bathroom looked nothing like the photos shown on the listing. Due to my child being allergic to mold, she started coughing almost immediately. We asked for a room replacement and even offered to pay extra, but the host said this was not possible as the property was fully booked. As a result, we left the room and checked out within 30–60 minutes and contacted both the host and Booking.com to request a full refund. After 1–2 hours of back-and-forth, the host agreed to a partial refund of 75% of the prepaid amount. Overall, I am very unhappy with both the inaccurate listing information (there was no mention of a basement room, otherwise I would have clarified this before payment) and Booking.com support, which did not handle the situation efficiently. This experience caused unnecessary stress, loss of time, and partial financial loss (the only agreement reached was the ~75% refund, and we had to book a replacement hotel at a higher rate). I have visited London more than 15 times in the last two years and have never experienced anything like this before. Very disappointing.

Apollo Hotel Kings Cross was CLOSED, NO LONGER IN OPERATION. We would never have booked a hotel that was no longer in operation. Horrible booking through Booking.com. We had to scramble to find a last minute place to stay on a Saturday night in London. THIS WAS A HUGE INCONVENIENCE. WE WILL NOT book through, use or recommend Booking.com in the future.

Close to metro Stair

The room and bathroom were very clean, and the double bed was comfortable. There was good artificial lighting and plenty of storage. Wi-Fi was good. When checking in, the staff was friendly and helpful. The check-in office is very, very small so the staff isn't usually present. There IS a number posted, though, so someone can be easily reached. The hotel is quite close to St Pancras/Kings Cross with many underground line and bus connections. The locale is full of people. I felt safe as a single, female traveler, but if you are unfond of crowds, this neighborhood isn't for you.There are plenty of restaurants and fast food options. It's a 5-minute walk to the British Library and maybe a 15-minute walk to the British museum. Euston station is a walkable distance away. My room, Room 2, was steps from the front door and adjoined to the check-in office. I could hear every discussion in the hall and on the adjacent steps and every person going up or down the steps. One night, someone attempted to open my door; since they were trying to use a key, I presume it was a mistaken (and likely inebriated) room ID. There is a small window but it is situated so that very little natural light enters. Only one small soap in the bathroom. The shower was a little tricky to work.

The bed was comfy. Shower blocked so leaked onto floor - sink blocked- not enough towels- Room way smaller than expected from pictures-

It was extremely hot with no A/C. I understand it was a hotter summer day but it got so hot on the 4th floor even with the window opened that it was unbearable.

Great location! 2-3 blocks from Kings Cross and St. Pancras stations, five minute walk to Euston. Room was on 2nd floor (what in the U.S. we would call 3rd floor) up a one-way carpeted staircase. I'm not generally happy with carpeted stairs unless they are very well maintained; I think they are not easy to negotiate, especially going down with luggage. Room wasn't much larger than the bed, but I don't expect American-size rooms when paying budget-level rent, especially in London, which is VERY expensive. It was nice to have an en-suite bathroom; the first time this trip I stayed in the Apollo I was in a ground-floor room with a bathroom "down the hall." "Down the hall" facilities worked when I was in my early 20's, but don't work now in late middle age. I paid budget prices and got a budget room. I didn't expect any different. There are lots of small hotels near the train stations; like the Apollo, they offer minimal comfort for travelers who are just passing thru and need a warm dry place to lay one's weary head. Don't expect caviar on a bubblegum budget.

London is a VERY expensive place to stay. A nice hotel room was beyond my means, so I had to settle for something less. The location of the Apollo can't be beat; two blocks and a very busy street and you're at both King's Cross and St. Pancras train stations, and Euston Station is only a few minutes, on foot, away. But the facility, while clean, is decidedly downscale. Depending on where they put you, and on this trip I was in two different rooms, I'd rate the hotel as either a one-star or barely two-star. My first two visits to the hotel I was in a ground-floor room with toilet & shower facilities "down the hall." On my third visit to the hotel I was in an en-suite room on the second floor (would be the third floor in the U.S.), and while toilet / shower facilities were handier, the room was not much bigger than the double bed. I don't want to knock this place too much; I was perfectly happy to be so close to the train and underground stations and the hotel is in a nice, quiet neighborhood. And the receptionist was super nice. But coming from America where everything is super-sized, not just the hamburgers, don't expect nice rooms at budget prices, because it ain't gonna happen. Being not terribly steady on my feet, I would have either appreciated non-carpeted stairs or carpeted stairs that were better maintained. And I wasn't at all sure that the water from the taps was potable.
