Clean and it’s near to gaya street and Suria Sabah The sound proofing ain’t great, so as I stayed on the lobby floor, you can hear people talking at the lobby waiting area

Enjoyed my stay at this hotel, a real surprise as from outside it doesn’t look like much but inside the building has been completely renovated to a high modern standard. The standard room was cozy, clean and new, with all the features of a modern hotel and everything worked well. Staff very sweet and helpful too. Nothing

Outsider easier access to room unit..a bid dangerous and the soundproof is not good,easier hear noisy from other outside the room.

Location is great. Checking in and out were quick. Overall, it is a pleasant stay. It’s not that quiet in the room. We heard water of other rooms running and traffic noise.

The place was so clean, neat and tidy. I like that the rooms aren't too big but still cozy. It has sufficient, modern and subtle lighting. I appreciate that. The shower, hot water and AC all functioned well. The staffs were so friendly and helpful. Especially the two ladies at the reception counter. I already felt like home. They greeted me politely and offered to keep my bag since I arrived early. The location is also strategic. Directly above 7E and other convenience stores, restaurants are just a stone's throw away. The wifi is a bit slow and keeps on disconnecting. My room was on the 3rd floor, maybe it's far away from the router. I don't know. I can get up to 40 mbps max and lower than 10 mbps at times. What's disappointing is even my cellular coverage couldn't even get 5G. I could only get 4G coverage with celcom at 30 - 40 mbps only. Don't know why. Other than this, I have no complaints.

No breakfast during my stay, however walking around was easy and near to shopping mall Suria Sabah, Jesselton and the gaya street night bazaar/Sunday Tamu. A challenge to find Vehicle parking near the hotel, if applicable can insert location to buy parking coupon.

Matata Hotel is new hotel in Kota Kinabalu. This located in city center of KK. You can reach Gaya Street, Suria Sabah and also Jesselton by walk. There are some coffe shop, restaurant, drugstore and bank near the hotel. The last is 7 eleven is in the downstairs This hotel do not provide breakfast, but you can go for breakfast to fook yuen cafe ?

Room is clean and aptly equipped. It's a bit like the Japanese hotels where it's compact and clean. The basic double room facing inner courtyard Not recommended for bigger size couples as it may be a bit squeezy. Also not recommended for those with big luggages or more than 2 luggages.

Everything was very good. Location, Bed, Room was clean. We would definitely go again! The staff was also very friendly and kind.

What’s not to like about this place? Sure, it’s small, but that’s what makes it convenient of where’s it at. I’d like to point out I have never been to KK, I had no idea this hotel would be a place I would’ve gladly stayed for 2 weeks. Not everyone will see it that way, but it was centered not too far from the Suria Sabah mall which has A LOT of stores and food places to go too. You want McDonald’s? It’s 2 minutes from you. Need some shoes or an outfit? Again, it’s right there. The laundromat is right down the street from the hotel, and it’s awesome because it has detergent already in the washing machine so you don’t have to add anymore. They’re was a dope sushi place right down the way, a good coffee shop. (October Coffee House), and sooo many options. They also have the night market which is 2 blocks down on the weekends where they sell even more food that’s local and is cheap. That food out there was good, you can’t miss it if you’re staying over the weekend. So much good things about this place, the staff was INCREDIBLE when I stayed there, giving me tips on things to do and what to look for and even where to eat. If you guys are reading this, it’s Ricci, I was the only black guy from Cali staying there, miss y’all! Stay here if you need a good central location while you’re in KK, this city was amazing and has a lot to offer. My only suggestion is to have more pillows on the bed, maybe just two extra pillows? Other than that, place is great.

Staff was so amazing: thank you to the front desk and housekeeping staff. They were all polite, helpful, hardworking and so nice! Good location , 1 min walk to awesome mall and restaurants. Spacious, modern design. Nice view. The wifi was terrible!! The manager should install routers in every floor. The bad wifi was frustrating because I needed it for work. Also, there was only 1 soap for hand soap, body soap and shampoo. It was very cheap. I had to buy my own shampoo. Tv also only had 1 channel.

Not a “didn’t like” but rather a recommendation to chose the larger rooms as there’s a big difference in the comfort if that matters to you. The smaller rooms are fine but the larger rooms offer much more value.
