YHA Hartington Hall - Hostel

Nice reception check in and the place was pretty the coffees and food were good Flies which I understand it's a working farm but I thought the amount around food was unacceptable.

Lovely location and perfect stopover for our trip to alton towers Nothing to dislike. Lovely staff and food and the room is what I expected to suit 2 adults and 4 kids

Beautiful and convenient location. Restaurant was pleasant and lovely general overall feel. Rooms and bedding were clean apart from beds had not been hoovered under for a while. The property is trying to deal with them so absolutely not a bad thing against them but the fly situation is pretty annoying.

The location was fantastic, the building absolutely beautiful. The staff always smiling, pleasant and helpful. Our room was too hot so we asked for a fan at reception and the young lad went out of his way to find one for us. LOVED seeing all the kitties on site! We don't wish to give the impression that we have anything against working farms, but this working farm was waaaayyy to close to the accommodation and self catering kitchen facilities for our comfort. Our window was a stones throw away from an open barn and we couldn't have the window open for all the flies and the smell. We thought that was bad enough, until we saw that the kitchen was about 30 meters from the open barn. The flies were HORRENDOUS. I had planned on cooking but there's no way I could have cooked and served food safely without getting flies in it. Even with the door shut they were getting in, and I mean it looked like a horror movie, not just a few flies. Changing the door access codes daily seems a little too much, people were trying to get in the kitchen the morning after their stay and couldn't get in, so they were pinning the door open with the bin, and people trying to use the kitchen were also pinning the door open to try and let the flies out!! We will not be returning unfortunately, this really put us off. We left pretty sharpish in the morning. I would suggest having the kitchen a bit further away from the barn, understand there'd be a cost to this but would be worth it for the loss of return business. Also consider changing the code weekly, not daily.

Great location. Amazing place. Easy and authentic. We reserved a landpod. The kids loved it. We had a very restful time.

Great YHA, is beautiful setting and gorgeous little village. Stayed in a tent this time is really fun stay. Nothing.

Great location (ideal for Alton Towers) , very comfortable, very helpful staff. We paid extra for breakfast and it was a bit sparse.

Beautiful place. Wish we were staying longer. Just an overnight stay before heading to alton towers. Everyones super friendly and helpful No negatives
