Opened in January 2012, Generator Hostel Hamburg is one of the city’s largest hostels. All rooms are fitted with secure key card systems and can be reached by elevator. Additionally, there are shops and grocery stores within a 5-minute walk of the hostel. Busses and trains are just a 1-minute walk from the Generator Hamburg. Great location right next to the central train station which makes it very popular. Wifi was spotty in the room. Common areas were small and right next to the bar which makes it not so apt for working. No kitchen available but the staff can keep your stuff in a fridge if you ask, but you must bother them every time you need it. Location is a bit sketchy, I wouldn't wander around too late when dark.

I liked the kitchen and how well equipped it was, the coffee machine made it feel homely. The entrance to the reception is challenging to find from the street. Clear instructions on their bookings page would make it easier to locate the property.

I felt safe in the actual hostel but the surrounding area is very sketchy. As a solo female I felt unsafe walking to the hostel alone at night

Close to the central station which is very convenient. Very nice beds in double rooms and superior light blocking curtains! The area is sketchy, lots of weird people wandering around but I guess hotel can do nothing about that
