Considering the higher prices of most hotels in the heart of George Town this provides good value for money. Although the entrance is rather ugly and dirty (rubbish discarded around the ground floor sign and in the entrance corridor) and a dodgy looking lift, once you enter your room you'll be pleasantly surprised. My room consisted of two queen sized beds (I was travelling solo), was spacious and modern, contained a decent ensuite bathroom, had lots of storage space and was overall clean. The air con and wifi was effective, and with a TV and kettle all my basic needs were met. Also, really quiet. Wati, the night receptionist, was lovely: friendly and always with a smile. Can't say much positivity about the day receptionist. When I first checked in there was some confusion wether my booking (via booking.com) had paid the obligatory tourist tax—I wasn't sure, just assumed all taxes/charges were included in what I paid booking.com. As I was staying 15 nights I ended up having to pay in cash RM150 (£27), only to discover the next day my booking.com email confirmation said the tourist tax was included in the price I paid. When I mentioned this to reception the next day they immediately refunded me the RM150 tourist tax: however, I feel the hotel should know whether a foreign tourist has already paid the tourist tax when booking via one of the big hotel booking companies. I shouldn't have to know the ins and outs of my booking. If I hadn't properly checked my email confirmation I would have ended up paying the tourist tax twice (over £50!)! Only gripe about my room when I first entered was one of the towels (out of two) was revoltingly dirty (brown in places!); I can't fathom how they could leave this utterly dirty and stained towel for a new guest!!!

You could not get a better location, right in the center of little India, it was within walking distance of most things, the jettys and the artwork etc. The room size was ok for 1 person, I think 2 would have been a struggle. The Ramadan festival was right outside and served some delicious food. The AC was good The staff were unpleasant and everything seemed too much trouble for them. When we booked in ( 2 separate rooms) they shoved 1 toilet roll over the counter, I had to explain we would need 2 and we were begrudgingly given another one. The shower dripped all night which meant the floor was constantly wet. The bed had a plastic sheet on it and then a mattress topper placed on top of this which slid all over. The windows were all opaque so there is no view. The noise is constant, people talking loud and lots of traffic at all times of the day and night. I asked if they could recommend somewhere to rent a scooter and I thought I had grown another head, no help was forthcoming. I went to the shop on the corner A.T.U two trading as they had a sign outside saying they rented scooters and he was incredibly put out and said we would have to wait until he had mopped the floor ? No idea why, didnt stay long enough to ask,,,,, very rude young man.
