The accommodation was good and easy to access due to its convenient location. The staff were very helpful, and the breakfast was excellent. I would recommend staying here. - Mohamad Firdaus perhaps add a fridge in the room

Loveliest staff. Beautiful Penang architecture and decor throughout. We got Room 4, I believe. And it overlooks a section of outdoor food vendors that start cooking at 6am, with their metal woks. There is no soundproofing for this side with the windows. So, you will be forced to wake up at 6am every morning, keep in mind.

I had a fantastic stay at Ren I Tang! It's in the perfect location (Little India) for walking around and exploring George Town. The staff are really friendly and it has more of a guesthouse feel, quite different from a normal hotel. The breakfast has a great spread of items, from more western items like toast and overnight oats to nyonya kueh and Indian curries. And the entire inn is lovely to look around, from the beautiful air wells that let in tons of natural light to the Chinese medicine shop ground floor. It was a treat to just hang out in the ground floor cafe in the evenings. From the hospitality of the staff to the comfort and loveliness of the rooms, I really loved staying at this inn and would gladly stay again. One note is that the stairs can be narrow and steep, so watch your step. But I don't consider this something negative, rather just something to be aware of. Nothing!

Absolutely wonderful place. Super friendly workers, beautiful old building, very good breakfast and cafe food. Perfect location. I’m not sure what more you could want.

Amazing heritage home! Great breakfast, super friendly staff and convenient location. Recommended!

  • Engine customer Apr 2026

The breakfast was absolutely excellent, lots of great choices for local foods, all homemade. The common areas were beautiful and comfortable to hang out in. The room was large and well appointed, and the AC/fan worked well despite the heat and humidity. The room faced the Main Street but with the fan on at night it was quite quiet. The staff were really lovely. It’s right in the heart of old Georgetown. The bistro offered really refreshing drinks to enjoy and people watch. Great spot to use as a base to explore. The room (number 3) is beautifully restored wood, with lovely large windows that open to the street. The wooden bath tub is a lovely touch. Not a negative but just a note that if your room is on the second floor you can hear the people above you walking around as it’s a heritage building and made of wood. The stairs are quite steep so may not be appropriate for someone with mobility issues.

Location was excellent if what you were looking for is Little India. The hotel is very quaint, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. We stayed for one night, so it was ideal. If you are staying more than one night I can foresee a few issues, starting with lack of storage for clothing within the room - essentially you will have to live out of your luggage. Others reviewed the breakfast and said it was great. We found it to be below average given that the last two hotels we stayed in Penang were Citadines Connect and ParkHotel, both of which offered superior fare. The elevator was out of order and climbing the steep flight of stairs could be tricky, especially for those with large feet, as the steps are narrow.

The breakfast was so good! And it’s right in Little India — walking distance to everything nearby. (10-15min to street art, etc) The aesthetic! Very cozy and homey, and exactly how I would decorate an Inn if I had my own establishment. Tasteful and curiously creative. N/A

Favourite place!! Would stay here again!! Reminded me of my travels in Thailand, Bali and Netherlands — a little bit of old and new. But I also adore vintage and eclectic spaces with quirks and character. A delight that this place exists!! And extra special that each room is furnished differently. So you can visit multiple times and stay in different rooms and have a unique experience each visit. Definitely hope to be back in the future!! N/A

Ren Tang Heritage Inn is one of those rare places that stays with you long after you leave. It has a kind of charm you simply can’t manufacture—slightly creaky, a little imperfect, but completely full of soul. The heritage architecture, open-air layout, and thoughtful details create an atmosphere that feels both intimate and transportive. Whether you’re overlooking the lively street or the peaceful garden from one of the small balconies, there’s always something to take in. It genuinely gives the feeling of a tucked-away European guesthouse, somehow nestled right in the heart of Penang. What I loved most was how the space invites you to slow down. It’s not about polished luxury—it’s about character, warmth, and a sense of place. Every corner feels intentional yet unpretentious, making it easy to settle in and feel at home almost immediately. If you’re someone who appreciates charm over perfection and atmosphere over flash, this place is truly special. I’m so glad I chose to stay here—it ended up being one of the highlights of my trip. My stay was not long enough, so I actually extended my stay for 2 extra nights!!

Excellent location, very nice historical hotel with lots of character. Location is very busy, historic area. We really liked the area but may not be for everyone.

Great location for exploring on foot, large and well equipped room, wonderful historical building, friendly and helpful staff, and best hotel breakfast I've experienced to date. Nothing really.

After spending 4 nights here, I can confidently say that Ren I Tang is one of those establishments that push Penang’s culture forward while staying humbly grounded. I hope to stay here again in the near future and hope everyone can experience this hospitality as well.

We had the most wonderful stay at Ren I Tang Heritage Inn in Little India, George Town, Malaysia. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel very welcome and were knowledgeable about the local area. Their warmth, genuine smiles, and thoughtful attention to detail truly made our trip special. The hotel itself is beautifully preserved, showcasing classic Penang heritage design with tasteful décor that blends tradition and comfort. Every corner reflects the rich cultural character of the area, creating a unique and memorable atmosphere that you simply wouldn’t find in a standard hotel. Their bistro has delicious food that’ll make you want to go back for more and the breakfasts offer plenty of selection. We highly recommend this charming heritage hotel to anyone visiting George Town and would gladly stay here again. end this hotel to anyone visiting Penang. It offers not only comfort and style, but also heartfelt hospitality that makes all the difference. We would love to return again and relive such a fantastic experience!

WiFi was without internet, hard to maintain stable room temperature, the hotel wasn't clearly mark which made it difficult to find it.

  • Engine customer Feb 2026

The hotel had so much charm, the room was comfortable, and the staff was exceptional. They provided a delicious breakfast and were always friendly and attentive. The location was very central, right in the middle of everything.

  • Engine customer Feb 2026

The property is an old building not designed as a hotel, so you may find not guest-friendly features, like steep stairs, tiny lift, tight windows…No fridge in the room, which is a definite disadvantage in the hot local climate.

    Nothing, 10/10

Loved the ambiance of the complete building. Althoug the rooms 18 and 16 were cosy rooms, it was just a good climb to get into your room. Yes, there is an elevator, but you just don't think about it when you are there and just climb the steep stairs. Some attention for the cleaners in the bathroom is to check the kit around the sink. All the staff had big smiles on their face, despite the long hours they make.....and nothing is too much.

The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The breakfast selection ranged from Western to local options, and the homemade yogurt was especially great. They even surprised us with a plate of famous char kway teow, giving us the chance to try one of Penang’s iconic dishes. The house itself is spotless, cute, and cozy, and you can really tell it is a well-managed property with a lot of care put into the details. The location is excellent. The Peranakan Museum and Peninsula House restaurant are just a 5-minute walk away, and the lively Old Town is within a 15-minute stroll. Because it is slightly outside the busiest area, getting a Grab was much easier and the surroundings felt calmer. My parents absolutely loved staying here, as the house brought back fond memories of their younger days. At the same time, it was a meaningful and enjoyable experience for us younger guests as well. A lovely blend of nostalgia and comfort, and a place we would happily recommend.
