I love history and the building is recognised for its historical value. It was built as a luxury hotel and I felt the staff treated me as if I was in a luxury hotel. Staff were helpful and professional. The evening meal was good value for money when buying a meal voucher on booking in. Breakfast was also good value. Good value for luxury feel, and very comfortable bed. The bathroom was designed with a nod to Victorian style but modern. Exceptionally clean. As a lone traveller I also liked the twist lock and door chain for security. I stay away from work a lot and often find issues but not here. There was nothing I could complain about.

The walkway from the parking to the reception was truly original. The mirrored ballroom was amazing. An old-fashioned hotel very well maintained.

The bathroom was gorgeous luxurious all black and the bed was comfortable. The heating didn’t seem to be working. The bedroom itself is much smaller compared to other 3 star hotels I have been to and i personally didn’t like the fact that it’s crowded at the entrance cos they use as smoking area and I do believe that some of those people aren’t even staying at the hotel just come to use the pub facilities in the ground floor that’s the impression I had; I’m a non-smoker and i didn’t like to have to swerve people smoking in order to gain access to the main entrance it should be a separate area designated for smokers;also u have no choice but to cross through all the gatherings of people in the eating pub area to then gain access to the reception itself to do your check in.The halls leading to the bedroom are depressingly dated but overall I had a decent rest but the best thing about this hotel is definitely its location right at the heart of the town next to shopping centre, supermarkets etc all walking distance. Not sure lll stay again not for the price I paid £79/per night.

Room - good. Breakfast - good, but buffet stock allowed to run down too low before being topped up. Wider choice of a Continental/Asian fare would be nice. Bar and bar food -OK. Again a wider choice and later availability of sandwiches/cold food but be good. Location - great for our plans. Parking availability good. Building and decor- excellent. Trying to preserve the history and grandeur good. But it seemed a bit tired. Staffing levels seemed low. More front of house presence would be good As I said above, wider choice and availability of food. Some sprucing up of fixtures and fittings. More staff. Several people gathering in the lobby to socialise, even with a bar available. Try to recreate the past grandeur more.

The location was great. Internally the building could have done with a clean, it smelled of dust everywhere. Foyer, lifts, passages and our room all areas smelled of dust. Nets and curtains were ripped, extremely dirty and carpet sticky.

Wonderful old Victorian hotel with lovely public spaces, large recently decorated, comfortable bedrooms and friendly staff.

We enjoyed our stay, the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. A good selection of prepared fruit at breakfast. We were slightly disappointed with the breakfas. I prefer a full English breakfast to be prepared for me..and not just a help yourself style cooked breakfast. My wife prefers a continental style breakfast with some nice bread or rolls with selection of Cheese/ ham salami etc. But we managed.

We were able to charge our EV on site. TV was useless. Not able to get a connection to any service. Mentioned to reception but not able to fix.

large room, central location, car parking, very helpful staff We were on the south side of the hotel and it was very hot. Other than having AC I'm not sure what the hotel could do about that. A fan was provided, which was a help.

The rooms were nice and mostly clean. The location was very accessible. The main train station is 5 mins by foot. There is a mall nearby you can hang out in. There are some charity shops around, as well as some health and wellness service providers. Stayed 21 to 23 July 2026, room 227. An item went missing from my room during my stay: a Nintendo Switch Lite that was in my bag in the room, never taken out of it and never used. My bag was open while the room was serviced. I reported my lost property by phone on 15 August and was told someone would get back to me; nobody did. I then followed up three separate ways, namely: the website contact form, customer service email, and Facebook. I received no reply to any of them. I called again on 17 August. I was then informed by the receptionist that housekeeping hadn't handed anything in. Fair enough, but I don't feel like they really tried to look into/for it. For one, I had not been told whether the lost property log itself was checked, or whether room access records were reviewed. Til this day, I have not had a single written response or reference number at any stage. Every contact had to come from me. I'm not making any accusations about what happened to it. I'm still pursuing it because the console was a Christmas gift from my partner and is a limited edition item, so it isn't something I can simply replace. I would still welcome a written reply confirming what was actually searched. I would DEEPLY appreciate it if someone could help me with this. Please. My booking confirmation number is 6085847626. I can be contacted through the details on that booking, preferably by email. Thank you for your consideration. P.S. If you are wondering about the delay between my stay and report, I travelled for work again immediately afterwards and was then physically unwell for more than a week. Additionally, I didn't realise it was missing, as my bag was unpacked by my partner rather than by me. I understand that the delay may have made a search harder, and I am not suggesting otherwise, but it does not change the fact that the item was still in room 227 on 22 July.
