This 14th century country house hotel, is set in the heart of the Sussex Downs in the village of Alfriston. The The Alfriston is just a short drive from the seaside town of Eastbourne and cosmoplitan Brighton. Set in four acres of fabulous gardens, The Alfriston has all the facilities for a perfect break. It features 36 bedrooms, a public bar, and guest lounges. The hotel is home to the locally renowned, Rosette-awarded, Dining Room. It also offers an outdoor seasonal swimming pool (available from May to September). Guests can enjoy playing croquet and boules in the grounds. Relaxing evenings can be spent on the large terrace, which is ideal for alfresco dining during the summer months.

Grounds, location, food Rooms were extremely hot and impossible to cool down. One very inadequate fan. Staff were attentive, but were young and some seemed a little inexperienced - would benefit from more visible experienced oversight

Location - just beautiful with South Downs way alongside and hills visible from swimming pool. Staff were on the whole v helpful. Reception staff were welcoming. Dining room lovely and dinner itself and staff were excellent Nothing major. Breakfast arrangements were a bit chaotic on Saturday morning when room was full. Probably better to find an alternative system to current with guests fetching their own coffee tea etc. Fetching cereals toast etc is fine but hot drinks less so. Cooked breakfast was good one morning and less so next so probably chef dependant. Our room by pool had little terrace and v homely/ comfortably furnished. Nice touches like madeleines and snack cupboard as well as glass of rose and Madeira all complimentary. All good.

The hotel was generally great in terms of location and facilities, but our room was massively overpriced. £400 per night is far to expensive for a room in the car park that doesn't have air con or a proper sink in the bathroom. Very disappointing!
